COACH : noun - educator, mentor, trainer, advisor, confidante.
Has talking to a friend or a colleague ever helped you find a solution to a problem which had been troubling you? If the answer is yes, then you have already experienced coaching.
Coaching takes many forms, some people use a personal trainer to coach them to a healthier body some people use a tutor to coach them in preparation for an exam. However, using a coach to improve the quality of your life or career has traditionally been treated with apprehension and confusion. So what is coaching? As with many things it is easier to describe what it is not. Coaching is not counselling, nor is it therapy, although it can – depending on the circumstance – run very effectively alongside these treatments. Coaching will not resolve deep lying emotional traumas. What it will do however, is provide the catalyst for you to achieve the life and career you have always wanted.
At Harbour we divide coaching for business into three different categories:
- Coaching for Excellence: In which we work 1:1 with individuals who are already highly effective to produce a turbo charged improvement in their work performance. This in turn allows them to increase their responsibility, productivity and make the next step in their career with your company.
- Coaching for Performance: If an individual feels that they have become blocked by an issue or stalled at a challenge, they may benefit from coaching to improve their performance. The Harbour Coach would work 1:1 with them to overcome the problem and allow them to move past it.
- Coaching for Life: Despite our best intentions sometimes issues in our lives spill over into our work lives causing a detrimental effect. Coaching for Life enables individuals to meet on a 1:1 basis with a Harbour Coach to work through any issues outside of the workplace which they feel may be having a negative impact on their work.
How coaching benefits the individual : Enhances performance, resolves issues, provides focus.
How coaching benefits the sponsor company : Increases productivity, harmonises teams, drives individuals, demonstrates commitment to welfare and development.
All coaching programmes are conducted with strict attention to confidentiality. Coaching without trust between the coach and client is largely unproductive and does not produce the rapid results characteristic of coaching. At the outset the coach, client and their representative sponsor (usually their line manager) will establish their goals and expectations of coaching. At this stage they will also agree on how feedback is presented to the sponsor. As long as nothing illegal or business critical is divulged during the coaching process the coach will maintain confidentiality throughout.
Harbour Coaches are experienced in a wide variety of industries and hold formal coaching qualifications.
